The Sacconi String Quartet will give the world première of three new works for string quartet, by Alun Hoddinott, Graham Fitkin and David Gorton, commissioned by LSQF and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Admission is free by invitation to string players and teachers; please contact info@playquartet.com or the Wigmore Hall Community and Education Department on 020 7258 8240 for more information.
The new pieces are each about 10’ long, and are Grade 8 standard, so ideal for school and youth music groups. Parts and scores will be available for purchase on March 11th, and teachers and quartets will be able to apply for a place at the follow-up coaching day, also with the Sacconi, to be held at Wigmore Hall on Saturday 26th April 2008.
Three young quartets will be selected from the event for a special day of coaching with the Sacconi on the new pieces at Wigmore Hall on 26 April. The day will culminate in a performance of the new pieces by the young quartets at 5pm, which is open to the public. Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained by calling the Wigmore Hall Community and Education Department on 020 7258 8240.
Spectrum for String Quartet was commissioned by the London String Quartet Foundation and ABRSM (Publishing) Limited with funds provided by the John S. Cohen Foundation and the Neville Abraham Foundation.
