Spectrum for String Quartet
Première, Coaching Day & Performance
Wigmore Hall
On Tuesday 11th March 2008 the Sacconi String Quartet gave the world première of three new works for string quartet, by Alun Hoddinott, Graham Fitkin and David Gorton, commissioned by LSQF and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Four young string quartets - Dulwich College String Quartet (S.E. London), Forest School Senior Quartet (E. London), The Cavendish Quartet (Gloucester) and The Penwith Quartet (Cornwall) - were selected for a special day of coaching with the Sacconi Quartet on the new pieces on Saturday 29th November 2008 at Wigmore Hall. The day culminated in a performance of the new pieces by the young quartets at 5pm, which was open to the public, admission being free.
