Symposium - String Quartet

Symposium

The word Symposium comes from the original Greek word 'sympotein' which simply means drink together or to drink together. In ancient Greece parties would be held in the men's quarters where much wine would be consumed with food whilst the attendees were entertained with dancing, singing and musicians.

Today the word symposium generally refers to that of academia in conference in our case classical music. We have for the past two years held the London String Quartet Symposium in order to keep ahead of and to pioneer the development of young string quartets in the UK and indeed world wide.
