The Czech Wihan Quartet can still boast the four original members; formed in 1985 the quartet has grown together to become one of the most respected and talked about string quartets in the world. The name Whian comes from the founder Hanus Wihan, who was also the Cellist in the famous Bohemian Quartet. Wihan are known for their superb interpretations of compositions native to Czechoslovakia and they also include many classic masterpieces in their repertoire.After winning the London International String Quartet competition in 1991 the quartet have gone from strength to strength making regular appearances all over the world from Japan through Europe and at many festivals in the United States.
