Belcea String Quartet

Imagine taking the stage at London's revered Wigmore Hall, artistic home to the world's finest chamber ensembles and soloists! Here is your chance to play in this hallowed recital hall, and receive coaching from The Belcea String Quartet, Wigmore Hall's dynamic young resident quartet and previous prizewinners of the International Competition. Exploring Mozart's "Haydn" Quartets, coaching from the Belcea String Quartet will include tips on technique, interpretation and performance.

If you play in an amateur quartet and would like to take part in this special event, please contact Wigmore Hall Community and Education Department on 020 7258 8240. Places are limited so please book as soon as possible so as not to miss out on this incredible opportunity. Closing date for applications is Tuesday 4 March after which names will be drawn from a hat. Entry fee for participating quartets is £60 per quartet.

If a friend or family member is taking part, or if you'd like to see what the quartets have achieved during the day, come along at 3.15pm when there will be performances by the hard-working amateur musicians. Amateur String Quartet Day at Wigmore Hall promises to be an inspiring and uplifting experience for performers and audience alike. Belcea string Quartet education activities at Wigmore Hall are supported by The Clore Duffield Foundation.

Come and see how Mozart brought the human intimacy and drama of his operas to the string quartet as the Belcea String Quartet looks at the Mozart works to be performed during the Competition. With plenty of live musical illustrations from the Cox Quartet, the Belcea String Quartet suggests that Mozart's mature quartets owe much of their style to the expressive and dramatic sound-worlds of his operas.

If Christopher Rowland's talk inspires you to hear the music in full, come and see the competing quartets in the International Competition play Mozart's quartets live on Saturday evening, Sunday morning and Monday afternoon. The best performance of a Mozart work will win a prestigious new award, the Amadeus Trophy, in honour of the Amadeus Quartet, and the genius whose name inspired them.
